Maria Rosa Fenoll Brunet MD PhD is a full professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University Rovira i Virgili in Reus (Catalonia, Spain).
Education: she studied at the University of Barcelona where she obtained the degree of Doctor of Medicine (1984) and the degree of Extraordinary Doctor (1988-89 and 1989).
A histologist by profession, she has published primarily in neuroscience and medical education.
She has extensive knowledge of the WFME standards for quality improvement in medical education and extensive experience in the international assessment and accreditation of higher education degrees in medicine and the health sciences. In particular, she has participated as an external assessor at the request of various European quality assurance agencies ENQA.
Most significant contributions to promoting EHEA principles in medical education:
The service: it has set up the office of international relations and academic agreements of the Faculty of Medicine of the University Rovira i Virgili from 1995 to 2007.
She has set up and coordinated all the academic mobility programs. The Socrates-Erasmus program and the Spanish Sicue-Séneca program for medicine, physiotherapy and nutrition. Other leadership positions include Registrar and Associate Dean for Curriculum Development, overseeing the overall adaptation of the medical curriculum. It has established numerous collaborations with European institutions throughout the EU (AMSE, AMEE, EMA, EBMA), as well as advice and contacts for international exchanges in medical education.
She also advised and provided contacts for the exchange of international experiences in medical education (ECFMG, WFME, ECTSICMG,
BEME, ASPIRE).
Participation in European projects: She has enthusiastically participated in key EU projects in medical education (KIOSK, MED-NET2, DEBOMED, EPOWEB, MEDINE, MEDINE2, BioS) and is a member of the boards of European medical associations (EMA, AMSE, EBMA) :
– European Medical Association (EMA) participating in the European projects DEBOMED, EPOWEB, BioS.
– Association of Medical Schools in Europe (AMSE), where she was involved as an auditor from 2001 to 2003 and then as an elected member of its executive committee until 2010.
– European Bio-Medicine Immuno(G)enetic Association (EBMA).
Current outside professional activities:
– Member of the Nominating Committee of the International Association for Medical Education (IAME);
– Jury member for the ASPIRE Int’l Awards – an international recognition program for excellence in medical education;
– Corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia (medical education section);
– Member of the jury of the Spanish National Awards for Medical Education offered by the Cátedra de Educación
Médica Fundación Lilly (Complutense University of Madrid).
– Member of the jury for innovation and excellence in health sciences teaching projects: University of Salamanca ;
Quality Assurance Agency of Galicia -ACSUG.
– As a physician, she has also collaborated in integrative medicine in an international consortium on personalized, preventive and curative medicine (PPPM); in the European network of BioMedicine
Immune(G)enetics (EBMA) and within the European Medical Association (EMA) in the framework of the European project BioS Erasmus+.
